Faculty Affiliate Lisa Gennetian, Professor in the Sanford School of Public Policy, Director of Graduate Studies in the Sanford PhD Program, and economist, is cited in a recent article examining how new tariffs on Chinese imports are raising the cost of essential baby gear.

As prices for necessities like car seats and bassinets rise by up to 25%, Gennetian notes the limited flexibility families have when it comes to these types of purchases:

A lot of these items are not preferences, per se… You can’t leave a hospital with a baby without proof of a car seat, right?”
